Custom annotations allow the traders to save custom properties like color, thickness, etc. for built-in annotations as their own toolbar item and auto-assigned hotkey. In this way, the traders can quickly access these annotations to mark up a chart without having to manually configure the properties every time.
For example, a trader regularly using the segment line annotation on the chart may want this drawing to be always in green, then instead of manually configuring its properties for changing the color every time, a custom annotation can be created for faster access from the left-hand side of the interface.
In this documentation, we will explore:
- Adding a Custom Annotation
- Restore Default Settings
- Apply Custom Annotation Properties
- Editing or Removing Custom Annotations
- Known Limitations
Let’s get started 🚀
Adding a Custom Annotation
Step 1: Draw any annotation on your chart. In this case, a trend line has been plotted.
Step 2: Right-click on the annotation and select Properties.
Tip: You can also double-click on the annotation to configure the properties 💡
***Step 3:* Customize the line color, thickness, etc. and click on the Custom Annotations button and then select Save as Custom Annotation.
Step 4: Enter a name for the new annotation and optionally change relevant properties (e.g., color, line thickness, visibility, etc.).
Step 5: Click on the Done to save your new custom annotation.
The new annotation will appear on the left toolbar with an auto-generated hotkey combination. If you want to use the new annotation, you can simply select it and draw on the chart as you would with any other built-in annotation.
Tip: You can add multiple custom annotations for the same drawing 💡
Restore Default Settings
You can restore the changes to the defaults by following the two simple steps outlined below.
Step 1: Right-click on the annotation and select Properties.
Step 2: Click on the Defaults to restore the annotation to the original settings.
Apply Custom Annotation Properties
You can apply custom annotation properties to a drawing graphed in another style. Let’s understand this with the help of an example.
In the illustration below, you can observe a solid black color trend line.
Step 1: Right-click on the trendline and select Properties.
Step 2: Click on the Custom Annotation button and select your custom annotation to apply its properties.
As a result of this action, the style and appearance of the existing drawing will be changed. In the illustration below, you can observe how the original black solid trendline has been changed to the dotted green color trendline.
Editing or Removing Custom Annotations
Right-click on the corresponding custom annotation from the right toolbar and select the Edit or Remove action.
Known Limitations
Hotkeys are assigned automatically and you can't customize them. Only the first 10 custom drawing tools will be assigned hotkeys.
